About polarized lenses
Polarized lenses (also known as Polaroid lenses)
Functions of polarized lenses
Regular sunglasses can reduce the amount of light and improve the contrast of vision. It can protect your eyes well.
Polarized lenses can filter polaried light ( eg. the dazziling light reflected from the water surface ) , improving the contrast and clearity
Principle of polarized lenses
Light is a type of electromagnetic wave that has the characteristic of oscillating in different directions.
Light from the sun usually has the same oscillation in all directions (unpolarized). When sunlight is reflected by a medium (e.g. water), the oscillation varies in different directions, it becomes polarized.
The polarized lens has a layer of polarizing film. The polarizing film is a dichroic transparent film that allows light oscillating parallel to the transmission axis to pass through while absorbing light oscillating perpendicular to that direction (absorb the glare).
This is the science behind the polarized lens. The polarizing film can effectively eliminate glare and improve contrast and clarity. And, of course, provide excellent protection for your eyes.
Why are they called Polaroid lenses ?
Polarized lenses were commericalized by Polaroid in 1928. For a long time, only Polaroid produced and sold polarized lenses. Therefore, polarized lenses are also called Polaroid lenses.
It is not difficult to find models with polarized lenses when buying sunglasses, but when it comes to lenses, there are very few options for polarized lenses.
